KHORDHA, SEPTEMBER 8: The Block-level Literacy Day under the Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (Ullas) was observed with enthusiasm at Government High School, Kaipadar, under the Kaipadar Cluster of Khordha Block on Tuesday as part of the International Literacy Week.
The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of Block Education Officer (BEO) Monalisa Nayak. Speaking on the occasion, the organisers emphasised the need to ensure that every member of society acquires basic literacy and is encouraged to pursue learning throughout life.
Among those present were ABEO, Bharat Chandra Pradhan, Mandal Resource Centre Coordinator Laxmipriya Nayak, Headmistress of Government High School, Kaipadar, Deepti Mayee Behera, School Management Committee president Pranaya Kumar Pattnaik, vice-president Parvin Bibi and Alumni Committee member Niranjan Samantaray.
Students of the school presented songs and dances based on the theme of literacy and the awakening of a new India. The cultural performances highlighted the importance of education, awareness and the participation of every section of society in the nation’s development.
As part of the programme, a mass awareness rally was organised to spread the message of literacy among local residents. The rally was flagged off by the chief guest with a green flag. Students, teachers and volunteers participating in the procession carried placards bearing various slogans highlighting the importance of education and the need to promote literacy.
The rally passed through the local area, creating awareness among the public about the significance of literacy and lifelong learning. The participants appealed to people to support efforts to bring those deprived of formal education into the ambit of learning.
Following the rally, an awareness meeting was held on the school premises. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Block Education Officer.
Addressing the gathering, Monalisa Nayak said the Ullas programme was not confined merely to teaching people to read and write. It also aimed at equipping non-literate citizens with comprehensive knowledge and awareness relating to financial literacy, digital literacy and civic responsibilities.
ABEO, Bharat Chandra Pradhan stressed the need to identify citizens aged 15 years and above who had been deprived of formal education and bring them into literacy and learning programmes. He called upon teachers, volunteers and community members to work together towards achieving the objective of making society fully literate.
The organisers said the Ullas initiative seeks to create an inclusive learning environment in which people who missed out on formal schooling can acquire essential knowledge and skills and participate more effectively in social and economic life.
The programme was successfully organised with the active cooperation of all teachers of the school and the Cluster Resource Centre Coordinators (CRCCs) under Khordha Block.
