Puja committees asked to register with police; DJ, loudspeakers and firecrackers prohibited.
KHORDHA, SEPTEMBER 8: With preparations gathering momentum for the celebration of Ganesh Puja, the Khordha district administration and police have stepped up measures to ensure that the festival is celebrated peacefully and safely, with strict adherence to law and order.
A preparatory meeting was held at Jayee Rajguru Town Hall here on Tuesday to discuss arrangements for the smooth conduct of Ganesh Puja, 2026. The meeting was attended by the SDPO, Deputy Collector, Assistant Collector, Additional Tahsildar, Khordha, besides members of different Ganesh Puja committees from Khordha.
The meeting assumes significance in view of the large number of public gatherings expected during the festival. The officials held detailed discussions with the puja committee members on various aspects of the celebrations, including maintenance of peace and public order, coordination with the police and administration, and ensuring the safety and convenience of devotees and local residents.
During the meeting, the administration and police emphasised that the cooperation of puja committees would be crucial for ensuring a peaceful and incident-free celebration. The committee members were urged to remain in close coordination with the concerned police stations and promptly communicate any issue that could affect the smooth conduct of the festival.
One of the key decisions taken at the meeting was that all Ganesh Puja committees would have to complete their registration with the respective police stations. The move is aimed at enabling the police to maintain proper records of the celebrations and ensure better coordination with organisers during the festival.
The authorities also announced stringent restrictions on the use of sound systems. The use of DJ systems and loudspeaker music has been prohibited during the celebrations. The officials made it clear that the restriction would be enforced strictly and that no puja committee would be permitted to violate the directive.
Similarly, bursting of firecrackers has been strictly prohibited as part of the administration’s efforts to prevent accidents, disturbances and other safety-related incidents during the festival.
The officials called upon the puja committees to ensure that their celebrations remain disciplined and do not cause inconvenience to the public. The organisers were also urged to cooperate with the police and administration in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere and ensuring that devotees can participate in the festivities without any disruption.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the administration to interact directly with representatives of the puja committees and discuss issues concerning the organisation of the festival. The committee members assured the authorities of their full cooperation in maintaining peace, discipline and public order during Ganesh Puja.
The administration and police appealed to the people of Khordha to celebrate the festival with devotion, unity and communal harmony. They also urged the public and organisers to strictly abide by the directions issued by the authorities and extend cooperation to the police and administration.
The authorities reiterated that maintaining peace and public safety would remain the top priority during the festival and appealed to all stakeholders to work together to make Ganesh Puja a peaceful, safe and harmonious occasion in Khordha .
