KHORDHA, NOVEMBER 3: Khordha district police have busted an alleged inter-district burglary racket with the arrest of 12 persons, including 11 alleged burglars and a suspected receiver of stolen property, leading to the detection of 15 burglary cases across Khordha and neighbouring Nayagarh districts.

Police have recovered approximately 500 grams of gold ornaments and 11 kg of silver ornaments during the operation, which followed a series of coordinated raids and investigations across the two districts.
Announcing the breakthrough at a press conference at the District Police Office (DPO) here on Tuesday, Superintendent of Police Parmar Smit Parshottamdas said the cases had been detected through sustained investigations and coordinated action by specially constituted police teams.
Of the 15 cases detected, seven were registered at Tangi police station, three at Nachuni, two at Banapur, one at Balugaon and two at Chandapur police station in Nayagarh district. The burglaries had reportedly been committed over a period of more than a year, indicating the operational spread of the alleged gang across several police station jurisdictions.
The breakthrough came following a major burglary at Niranjan Jewellers in Banapur on the night of October 27. According to the complaint lodged by shop owner Niranjan Patra, the miscreants allegedly broke through the shop’s rear wall, approximately 10 inches thick, to gain entry into the jewellery establishment.
They reportedly decamped with around ₹5 lakh in cash, approximately 400 grams of gold ornaments and nearly 13 kg of silver articles.

The incident was registered at Banapur police station as Case No. 439/2026, dated October 28, under Sections 305(a) and 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In a separate incident, complainant Abani Baral alleged that burglars broke the lock of his room during the early hours of September 14 and stole gold and silver ornaments along with cash. The case was registered at Tangi police station as Case No. 677/2026 under the same provisions of the BNS.
With similar incidents being reported from Tangi, Nachuni, Banapur and Balugaon in Khordha district and Chandapur in Nayagarh district, police intensified surveillance and launched coordinated investigations to identify those involved.

Acting on the directions of the SP and under the supervision of Balugaon Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sanjaya Kumar Pattnaik, special teams were constituted under the leadership of the respective officers-in-charge of Nachuni, Tangi, Banapur and Balugaon police stations.
The investigating teams analysed the modus operandi adopted in the burglaries, developed intelligence inputs and carried out sustained raids at different locations. The operation eventually led to the arrest of 11 alleged burglars and one suspected receiver of stolen property.
The arrested persons reportedly hail from different locations in Khordha, Ganjam and Puri districts. The suspected receiver has been identified as Prakash Sahu (41) of Badapadar under Nachuni police station limits in Khordha district.
The other accused reportedly include persons from Kuhudi and Chuatangi under Tangi police station, Tarasingh in Ganjam district, Dinabandhupur under Balugaon police station, Jigipada under Banapur police station, and Karadapalli and Totagaon under Nachuni police station. Another accused, identified as N. Rajesh, belongs to Bandhagram under Balanga police station in Puri district.
Police said approximately 500 grams of gold ornaments and 11 kg of silver ornaments had been recovered from the accused during the operation.
However, the recovery figures have drawn attention to the substantial gap between the quantity of valuables seized and the property reportedly stolen from Niranjan Jewellers alone. Against nearly 13 kg of silver articles allegedly stolen from the Banapur jewellery shop, police have so far recovered around 11 kg of silver ornaments from the operation.
Similarly, the recovery of the remaining gold ornaments and the approximately ₹5 lakh in cash reportedly stolen from the jewellery shop remains a significant aspect of the investigation.
The recovery gap has also brought into focus the possible disposal of the remaining stolen valuables and the role of other persons who may have allegedly facilitated the transfer or sale of the stolen jewellery.
Investigators are expected to examine the channels through which the stolen ornaments were allegedly disposed of and ascertain whether other receivers or buyers were involved in the racket.
While the detection of 15 burglary cases and the recovery of a substantial quantity of ornaments mark a significant breakthrough for Khordha police, the recovery of the remaining stolen property and the possible involvement of the arrested persons in other offences remain subjects of further investigation.
Further investigation is in progress.
