Khordha–20/7-ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture(ICAR-CIWA )BBSR, has established a Custom Hiring Centre(CHC) at Sarangadhar Sahoo Patna village, Balipatna, Khordha to support eco-friendly thread-based packaging material production by women farmers.Ten electric sewing machines were provided to the women’s group ” Shakti Sankalp Mahila Sangh” along with a three-day training program on machine operation and cotton bag stitching.

The establishment of the CHC and the training program was co-ordinated by Dr.Ankita Sahu,Scientist from ICAR-CIWA.This initiative aims to boost women’s income through sustainable livelihoods.

Earlier under a project on horticulture based organic farming, ICAR-CIWA had set up a women-led bio-input resource unit at Sodhua village producing Jeevamrut, Ghanajeevamrut,vermicompost and Handikhata. A similar unit is planned at Dhanahara village.These efforts reflect ICAR-CIWA’s commitment to empowering farm women and promoting agri-entrepreneurship.
