Guru Divas Marks New Beginning for Freshers at Capital Engineering College.
KHORDHA, SEPTEMBER 6: On the occasion of Guru Divas, a new chapter in the academic journey of hundreds of aspiring young professionals began at Capital Engineering College at Mahatapala near Khordha with the organisation of ‘CapQuest-2026’, an orientation programme for newly admitted students.
Organised with the theme “Dream, Learn and Achieve”, the programme was aimed at familiarising freshers with the academic environment, teaching and learning practices, institutional rules, opportunities and the prospects awaiting them during their years at the college.
The orientation was not merely a formal welcome for the new entrants but served as a platform to acquaint them with the responsibilities and opportunities associated with higher education and to motivate them to set clear goals for their academic and professional careers.
Students newly admitted to the Diploma, B.Tech, MBA and MCA programmes participated in the programme and were introduced to the academic ecosystem and various avenues available to them for learning, skill development and professional growth.
Chief guest Dr. Rajendra Prasad Mohanty, Chief Adviser of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University, urged the students to transform their dreams into clearly defined goals and make dedication, discipline and hard work the guiding principles of their academic life.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mohanty emphasised that education should not be confined to obtaining a degree. Students, he said, should acquire knowledge in a manner that enables them to apply it in real-life situations and contribute meaningfully to society.He further advised the freshers to identify their strengths and areas of interest from the very beginning of their academic journey and make consistent efforts to develop their capabilities. Proper guidance from teachers, he said, when translated into action by students, could contribute not only to their individual success but also to the growth and reputation of the institution.
Dr.Tarapada Dash, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Services and Sustainability, TRL Krosaki Refractories Ltd, who attended the programme as the guest of honour, highlighted the growing importance of skills and ethical values alongside academic knowledge in the modern education system.
In an increasingly competitive professional environment, he said, students must develop innovative thinking, problem-solving abilities, teamwork and leadership qualities. The objective of education, he pointed out, should not be restricted to securing employment but should also prepare young people to emerge as competent, responsible and ethical professionals.
Dr. Dash appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by the college towards the holistic development of students and encouraged the freshers to make effective use of the academic and developmental opportunities available to them.The orientation programme also sought to ease the apprehensions and uncertainties often experienced by students while entering a new academic environment. Through interaction with teachers, administrators and fellow students, the freshers were encouraged to build positive relationships and develop confidence in their new surroundings.
Dr. Saumyadarshan Mohanty, Director of Education, Capital Engineering College, welcomed the new students and expressed hope that the beginning of their new academic chapter would lead to a bright and successful future.
He advised the students to set realistic goals and move forward with disciplined routines, regular study and a positive outlook. Consistent effort, he said, would help them make the most of their time at the institution and prepare themselves for future challenges.
The celebration of Guru Divas alongside CapQuest-2026 gave the orientation programme a special significance, underlining the role of teachers and mentors in shaping the academic and professional journeys of young students.
The programme ultimately sought to establish a strong foundation for the freshers by combining knowledge acquisition with skill development, ethical values and innovation. The college expressed confidence that the new batch would make constructive use of its educational opportunities and go on to build successful identities in their chosen fields.
