Khordha – 22/5 -(Subha Khabar) Indian Association of Dermatologists,Venereologists & Leprologists, Odisha branch have expressed concern over the increasing quackery in dermatology & cosmetology. In a press conference, IADVL said that a Kanpur-based dentist falsely identified himself as a dermatologist & performed hair transplant on a person. However, the person died a few hours after the transplant procedure was completed. The association has expressed concern over the increasing number of such laser treatments, chemical peels & cosmetic procedures by untrained individuals. Quackery is the practice of treating patients who are not trained or qualified. Quackery is also prevalent in various spas & beauticians, leading to infections, side effects & even death of patients. According to the guidelines issued by the National Medical Commission, only qualified doctors who have completed postgraduate training in dermatology, venereal diseases, leprosy are registered with the government can perform cosmetic treatments for beauty, the association has said. Some quackery practitioners who are not trained are running cosmetic clinics & medispas by introducing themselves as dermatologists under the guise of doctors from other departments, which has a profound impact on the innocent common man. Therefore, it is necessary for institutions providing dermatology & cosmetic treatment to keep this in mind. Along with this, the association has demanded that the government should investigate this matter in a proper manner & take strong and strict action against quackery. The press conference was attended by the President of the association,Dr.Binodini Behera, Secretary, Dr.Kumar Abhish Nanda, Legal Advisor & renowned High Court lawyer Rakhi Mishra, Vice-President Dr. Har Prasanna Tripathy, Treasurer Dr.Ravi Narayan Nanda & many eminent journalists & senior doctors were present.
