Vehicle stopped on Khordha–Benapanjuri road; police probe source and intended destination of consignment

KHORDHA, SEPTEMBER 22: A pickup van allegedly carrying bovine meat for illegal transportation towards Hyderabad was intercepted by Khordha police during an early-morning patrol near Gada Khordha on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of the vehicle’s driver-cum-owner.
Police said the vehicle was intercepted on the Khordha–Benapanjuri road after the patrolling team noticed the vehicle and suspected that it was carrying an illegal consignment of animal meat. During the search, the police allegedly recovered bovine meat from the vehicle and took the driver into custody.
The arrested person has been identified as G. Selvaraj (38), a resident of Kovil Street, Pullilane under Red Hills police station limits in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. According to police, Selvaraj was driving the vehicle and was allegedly transporting the consignment towards Hyderabad.

A case has been registered at Khordha police station vide Case No. 303/2026 dated September 22, 2026 in connection with the seizure and arrest. Following his arrest, Selvaraj was produced before the competent court and subsequently forwarded to judicial custody, police said.
The seized meat has been kept under police custody pending completion of the required legal procedures. Police said the material would be disposed of and buried underground after obtaining the necessary order from the court and following the prescribed procedure.
The seizure was made by ASI B. Swain during patrolling, while SI A.K. Mohanty has been entrusted with the investigation.
The investigation is now focused on tracing the source of the consignment, establishing its intended destination and determining whether other persons were involved in the alleged transportation. Police are also examining the circumstances under which the consignment was being transported through Khordha.
Further investigation is underway.
